The Ely College students researched this complex but moving story using archive material, a visit to the Polish Sikorski Museum in London, the Imperial War Museum and, most importantly, interviews with veterans of Anders Army.

SIKORSKI MUSEUM, LONDON -

The Sikorsi Museum, located in Princes Gate in London, was created by Polish exiles living in London after the Second World War to preserve the memory of Polish Armed Forces in the West and their contributions to World War II, when the communisttakeover of Poland made it hard and dangerous for many Poles to return home. The Sikorski Museum, named after General Wladyslaw Sikorski, houses thousands of artefacts from the war. For more information, please visit their website: www.pism.co.uk

We were privileged to meet George and Valeria on out trip to the Sikorski Museum, both of whom shared their personal stories during the war.

“It was great to find out about the history of my country and speak to people who have actually experienced all those tragic events. I really appreciate the fact that they have agreed to speak to us and tell us their stories; they really gave us a lot to think about.”

(Pozdrawiam, from Karoline Gajowiak - Ely College Student)

Imperial War Museum, London -

The Imperial War Museum, London, was our Heritage Partner throughout the project. On our trip there, we met Grant Rogers, who spoke to us about the importance of this story to the allied war effort and the museum was kind enough to let us have on permanent loan, their own Anders Army exhibition stands.
